Made a headboard!

So, I finally did it! I made a headboard for our guest bedroom! I really wanted to do a cloth covered headboard with nail head trim...but I have yet to have the guts to try the nail head trim or the tufting of covered buttons. But, I think that will be in my next project.

To make a headboard you need...

1.plywood 2. foam 3. batting 4. fabric to cover 5. staple gun 6. hammer 7. nails 8. 2x4's

those are the basic items...

I decided to go with a modern square 63" x 63", which fits a full size bed. When you buy the plywood you have to buy 2 pieces cut at 31.5" x 63" to be able to make a square. And you will need 3 pieces of 2x4's at 63" to connect to 2 pieces of plywood.

Connect the 2 pieces of plywood with the 3 2x4's...

Cut the foam to size...this girl had a great idea to superglue it slightly to avoid shifting- just on the edges.

Then you wrap the batting around the foam and plywood and staple gun it on the backside. Make sure you pull it tight for no wrinkles! And, enjoy using a staple gun-- love it!

Next, you will wrap the fabric around. If needed, iron before hand. Since the fabric isn't long enough to cover a square we had to add little more on the bottom the headboard. (In this pic it looks like it is the top of the bed.. just mentally flip it around and you will get the picture.)

Voila!

But, to me, wasn't quite done...

See how you can see the gaps on the edge of the bed. There is a 2x4 on the top edge and it is very visible if you are looking at the side of the bed...sooooo.....

I bought 4 more 2x4's...

(2 of them were a little longer than the other to make it a square around the headboard...keep that in mind! Do your math!)

My sweet granddad sanded and stained the wood...

Then, I bought these products to help give an antiquey look...

First I sprayed a little gold spray paint and then, with a small roller, I roughly painted with a really really really light blue color.

And, sprayed a little more gold here and there.

Then, I roughly painted a tan/ivory color with a crackle glaze on top once the paint dried. After that I sanded it a little and wiped off some of the paint.

Now to attach the board to the bed...

Pop Pop, my granddad, and master carpenter help me attach the 2x4's to the headboard.

I had to help Pop Pop by pushing the headboard higher to sit a little in front of the antiqued boards. This helped it not look like it was sinking into the 2x4's.... this made it look very cushiony!

I love how the gold peaks through here and there!

This project cost me about $170 total... I think that is pretty good for a head board I will have a long time!

For my next project...

Can you guess what I am going to do?! This will be a new creation when I am done with it! I bought this cedar chest off craigslist for $50... and I have extra plywood left over from the first project...and I am thinking hmmmm....vvvelvet....

Summa time!

It has been so hot lately,right!? Summa is really here...finally! We have had a great start to summer...we went down the the beach for a week for Rayne's beautiful wedding. During that week vacation we not only celebrated Rayne and James' wedding but we had our 3 year anniversary as well! I can't believe it has been 3 years...it has flown by! 

I have actually seen Mac a lot more lately since the family he cooks for on Monday and Tuesday have been going on vacation. So, that means he is home/not working Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday!!! He has been keeping the house sooo clean, cooking, doing laundry... amazing! I still miss him at events and weddings etc on the weekends, but I just love having him home a little more regardless! 

Mac is reaching the point that he is really ready to start his own thing. I don't really know specifically what it will be, we just continue to pray that the Lord will reveal what Mac is supposed to start or do. We also are in continual prayer over the house the Lord is preparing for us. We really just want a "deal" and what the Lord has in store for us. I want to be where He wants us to be, ya know? I feel like we are in this period of just waiting while He prepares it. So, we will see!

The search

It seems like forever that Mac and I have been looking for a house... and I am so drained from this emotional roller coaster of a search. I just continue to hold onto His promise 

Phil 4:19  " And, my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus."

Whether you are looking for a house or for a job, I know it has been a struggle for me to continually give my situation to the Lord... therefore, I have been praying for those people who are also riding this same roller coaster. Anyone else on the same ride? I have realized lately that it is a great way to intercede for the body of Christ.... when you realize you are struggling with something, immediately start praying for you and others that struggle for the same thing. Let's bind the devil from getting involved in our lives in a negative way.  

 To those who are in a similar situation realize that...

Our tongue is powerful!

 "The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit."  Proverbs 18:21

Pray aloud for blessings in your search and upon the house/job the Lord will eventually reveal to you. Surround your search with a positive words not negative. And, while we are at it we might as well pray for the people on the opposite side of the situation...the person selling the house or the person hiring. One prayer I have always loved is the Prayer of Jabez: "Oh, that you would bless me and expand my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain." 1 Chronicles 4:10

God wants to bless us! We just need to invite God in and ask for His blessing!

God delights in our prosperity:

Psalm 35:27 "Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favor my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the Lord be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant."

Joshua 1:8 "This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success."

Let's hold on to these promises. Whether you are looking for a house or for a job "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." 1 Peter 5:7
